From SILVERADO to STAR TREK:TNG, the Dennehy name means Passion Quality & Fun with Elizabeth Dennehy

Called a “Super Western,” SILVERADO 1985 boasted a unique cast of actors in a surprising rock ‘n roll style tribute to the genre. Headlining the film is a group of young actors - Kevin Kline, Scott Glenn, Danny Glover, and Kevin Costner in his star making role as the rambunctious, gun twirling brother to Glenn. Beautifully shot in New Mexico with a rousing score by Bruce Broughton, SILVERADO is a love fest to westerns by director Lawrence Kasdan, co-written with his brother Mark.

The unexpected casting in a western of Kline, Linda Hunt, Jeff Goldblum and Monty Python John Cleese, is topped off by a wickedly funny and sinister performance by Brian Dennehy as the crooked sheriff. It was Tony winner Dennehy’s first western, after years of theater work, and he is magnificent.

Following her Father into the profession is actress and teacher Elizabeth Dennehy, recently featured in Kevin Costner’s own production of HORIZON. Elizabeth is probably best known for playing Lieutenant Commander Shelby on STAR TREK: TNG and PICARD. Join her and Rob Word for a fun conversation about what it was like growing up with a working actor and find out about the influence her Father had on her own acting pursuits.

Elizabeth discusses another role Brian Dennehy took that has had lasting impact on movie franchising. He gave one of his most memorable performances as the small town sheriff out to capture a renegade named “Rambo.” It’s not one of the shallow sequels but is FIRST BLOOD, the original hard hitting film that launched the series in 1982. Hope, British Columbia, the town where the film was shot, holds an annual festival honoring the movie. Elizabeth and her family were invited to participate in the ceremonies and decided to make a documentary about it. Highlights are shown during this special A WORD ON WESTERNS episode.
