World's Most CONSERVATIVE MUSLIMS? (Algeria) ????????

The M'zab Valley, Algeria is one of the best places in Algeria to travel in 2025. Here, in the heart of the Sahara Desert, are five UNESCO World Heritage villages (Ghardaia, Beni Isguen , Melika, Bounoura and El Atteuf) each with fascinating ksours. A Ksar is fortified village or "desert castle" found in North Africa - their unique desert architecture is typically built from mud and clay.

Taking a tour of the M'Zab Valley I found that here they've conserved practically the same way of life and the same building techniques since the 11th century. It's also a very PRIVATE society - Though modern ways have crept in, many of the women are completely covered, showing only ONE EYE (if they are married) and TWO EYES (if they are single).

In this video I learn about M'zabite culture, tour the famous UNESCO town of Ghardaia and the famous auction in Beni Isguen and climb to the top of the Beni Isguen minaret to get a panoramic view of all five main Mzab Valley villages.

Visitors are prohibited from staying the night in these UNESCO towns, must be with a guide to explore the private areas beyond the market and need a POLICE ESCORT between the villages. One exception for us was in El Atteuf, the smallest of the ksours, where we were able to wander around alone.

On another day my friend and I visited the beautiful red SAND DUNES of the Algerian Sahara. Back in town I explored a beautiful PALM GROVE, where many of the less conservative locals live!

وادي مزاب، الجزائر، هو أحد أفضل الأماكن في الجزائر للسفر في عام ٢٠٢٥. هنا، في قلب الصحراء الكبرى، تقع خمس قرى مُدرجة على قائمة اليونسكو للتراث العالمي (غرداية، بني يزقن، مليكة، بنورة، والعطوف)، ولكل منها قصورها الساحرة. القصر قرية مُحصّنة أو "قلعة صحراوية" في شمال أفريقيا، وتتميز هندستها المعمارية الصحراوية الفريدة ببنائها من الطين والصلصال.

خلال جولة في وادي مزاب، وجدتُ أنهم حافظوا على نفس نمط الحياة وتقنيات البناء تقريبًا منذ القرن الحادي عشر. كما أنه مجتمع شديد الخصوصية - فرغم تسلل الأساليب الحديثة، إلا أن العديد من النساء مُغطّيات بالكامل، ولا يُظهرن سوى عين واحدة (للمتزوجات) وعينين اثنتين (للعازبات).

في هذا الفيديو، أتعرف على ثقافة المزابية، وأتجول في مدينة غرداية الشهيرة المُدرجة على قائمة اليونسكو للتراث العالمي، وفي مزاد بني يزقن الشهير، وأتسلق قمة مئذنة بني يزقن لأحظى بإطلالة بانورامية على جميع قرى وادي مزاب الخمس الرئيسية.

يُمنع الزوار من المبيت في هذه المدن المُدرجة على قائمة اليونسكو، ويجب أن يكونوا برفقة مرشد سياحي لاستكشاف المناطق الخاصة خلف السوق وساحة المدينة، كما يحتاجون إلى حراسة أمنية بين القرى. كان أحد الاستثناءات بالنسبة لنا هو العطوف، أصغر القصور، حيث تمكنا من التجول بمفردنا.
